The invention relates to a piston-type internal combustion engine comprising cylinders that are arranged in a row inside an engine housing (4.2), and pistons (6) which are connected via connecting rods (5) to a crankshaft (1) whose bearings (2) are arranged in eccentric rings (3). Said eccentric rings are rotatably mounted in supporting bearings (4) inside the engine housing (4.1) and are connected to an actuating drive (7, 8), whereby at least one output shaft (12) is provided which is aligned in an coaxial manner with regard to the rotational axis (11) of the eccentric rings (3), is aligned in an axial parallel manner with regard to the crankshaft (1) and with transversal distance therefrom, and which is connected to the crankshaft (1) via a clutch (13) consisting of at least two gears (14, 15), whereby the gear connected to the crankshaft (1) forms an input gear and the gear connected to the output shaft (12) forms an output gear.
