The tool carriage is displaced via a double linear motor (2) with a movable motor part (2a), provided by part of the tool carriage, positioned between 2 stationary parts, for displacement along 2 parallel guide paths (3,4) lying in a guide path plane. The linear motor is enclosed on all sides by a housing (1), with one guide path contained within the housing and the other guide path lying on the outside of the housing. The movable motor part has respective shoulders (2d,2e) cooperating with the guide paths, one of which projects through the housing and supports the tool holder (5).
