The generator and a pump light source for producing light in the 0.8 micrometer and 1.06 micrometer bands for supply to a thulium-doped light emission medium. The pump light source may include a 0.8 um light generator, and a 1.06 um light generator which generates the 1.06 um light be absorption of part of the 0.8 um light and supplies the remaining 0.8 um light together with the 1.06 um light to the light emission medium.
