The machine has an interchangable planing tool (2) fitted to a tool spindle (20) and positioned at an adjustable spacing from a fixed stop (4) or the workpiece table relative to the spindle longitudinal axis (LA), indicated by a measuring and/or display device (9). A correction device (1) alters the position of the tool spindle relative to the stop or the workpiece table, via a setting device (5) after tool replacement, for compensating the differing tool dimensions.
