This invention relates to compositions and methods for modifying growth or differentiation of growth-factor dependent cells, using fusion proteins composed of a growth factor and a binding domain derived from a polysaccharidase linked diffusively to a solid support. The invention is exemplified by the use of a fusion protein that includes stem cell growth factor linked to a binding domain derived from a bacterial cellulase bound to a solid support to modify growth and/or differentiation of hematopoietic cells.
