<p>An electrospark alloying apparatus (20, 120, 220) includes a main body member, a collet (61) coupled to the main body member, and a heat sink (60) adjacent the collet (61). The collet (61) is adapted to receive and hold a consumable electrode (21). The apparatus (20, 120, 220) can also include a drive (31) for rotating the electrode (21). Further, the apparatus (20, 120, 220) can include an inert gas supply (29) and a discharge opening (50) in the main body member for facilitating lamellar gas flow of inert gas from the inert gas supply (29) around the electrode (21). A method of electrospark alloying includes electrospark alloying a workpiece (22) with a consumable electrode (21) and cooling the electrode (21) during the electrospark welding.</p> |
