PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new type optical control element capable of displaying without a color filter and providing good visibility. SOLUTION: This optical control element includes a substrate 1 with a plurality of light output layers 4 arranged thereon and a substrate 2 having a light transmitting function arranged so as to face with each other, and supports a liquid crystal 3 between the substrate 1 and the substrate 2. A gate electrode 9 for applying a plurality of scanning signals to either of the substrates 1, 2 is formed, and a source electrode 10 for applying a plurality of signal electrodes to either of the substrates 1, 2 is formed. The light output layers 4 are arranged in a stripe shape and an arranging direction of the light output layers 4 corresponds to a direction of the gate electrode 9.
