The invention relates to a pump cylinder in which a pump plunger is located which divides the cylinder into a front and a rear part. In the front part, said pump cylinder has a connection for sucking in the medium to be conveyed. The rear part of the pump cylinder comprises one or more electrochemical gas consumption cells for a gas to be consumed and an electric circuit that is permanently or periodically linked with the electrodes of the gas consumption cell. The inventive pump cylinder is further characterized in that the rear part of the pump cylinder is filled with the electrochemical gas to be consumed and that the electric circuit is designed to produce a gas consumption current so that the pump cylinder represents a device for carrying out a method of collecting pasty materials, liquids, gases and mobile objects over a predetermined period of time.
