Application of barrier layer to back of decorative covering, e.g. leather, involves spraying on multi-component material while covering is in a mold

A barrier layer consisting of a bi-component or multi-component material is applied to the back of a decorative covering, e.g. of leather, by spraying the material on while the covering is held in mold. The mold can be temperature controlled and the barrier layer applied with a robotic arm to a thickness of less than 200 mu m. Prior to spraying on the barrier layer, selected areas of the covering can be brushed with a coating that hardens in ultra-violet light to assist in shaping the covering.
