PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain good image display even when the pulse width of driving pulse is shortened to make hardly generate erroneous discharge and by generating maintenance discharge of an intial time portion on a discharge cell which belongs to a part of display line group, then writing picture element data in discharge cells which belong to remaining display groups, and generating remaining maintenance discharge on all the discharge cells at completing. SOLUTION: In a printing process Pc, within display in PDP of the first - the second (n) line, priming discharge is generated against discharge cells which belong to a display line group (display line group B) of the n+1 - the second (n) line. When a first light emission maintenance process Ic1 and the priming process Pc are completed, a second picture element writing process Wc2 is executed. In the second picture element data writing process Wc2, writing of picture element data is executed against the discharge cells which belong to the display line group B. When this is completed, the second light emission maintenance process Ic2 is executed. In the second light emission maintenance process Ic2, maintenance pulse of positive polarity IPx2, IPy2 are alternately and repeatedly impressed.
