PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently obtain a display device where brightness and picture quality are secured by adjusting positional relation between lens arrays in the case of forming the picture of a 1st lens array near a video display element by a 2nd lens array. SOLUTION: A distance between the 1st lens array 6 and the 2nd lens array 7 is made adjustable so as to adjust the size of a projected picture on the surface of the video display element 2 of each cell of the 1st lens array 6 by the 2nd lens array 7 and a condensing lens 9. In this device, light radiated from an electric lamp being a light source 1 is condensed by an ellipsoidal or parabolic or aspherical reflector 5 and made incident on the 1st lens array 6. After passing through the 1st lens array 6, the light passes through the 2nd lens array 7 and is made incident on a polarizing beam splitter 8. Furthermore, after passing through the splitter 8, the light is condensed by the lens 9 and irradiates the element 2. |
