PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heavy metal adsorbent capable of removing heavy metals in a gas or liquid phase and also provide a method for producing the heavy metal adsorbent. SOLUTION: This heavy metal adsorbent is an adsorbent produced by bonding a chelate forming group-containing compound to a porous substance containing one or more materials selected from activated carbon, zeolites, diatomaceous earth, natural sand, and ceramics. The chelate forming group-containing compound is preferably one or more compounds selected from thiosemicarbazide, thiocarbazide and thiourea, and the adsorbent can be produced by immersing a porous substance in a solution of from 0.2 wt.% to the saturated concentration of the compound. The heavy metal adsorbent can remove heavy metals by a liquid-phase or gas-phase method. |
