PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems, e.g. melting damage during high-temperature operation, with an atomizer burner which burns a hydrocarbon material in carbon black production and is installed at the reaction zone of a carbon black production apparatus by attaching, to the burner, an outer pipe for allowing a cooling medium to flow through. SOLUTION: The atomizer burner comprises a spraying nozzle 7-a and a pipe 7-b for supplying a raw material thereto and is equipped with an outer pipe for allowing a cooling medium to flow through. A channel 17 for allowing a cooling medium to flow through is formed between a raw material hydrocarbon channel 18 and the outer pipe. The outer pipe, especially its front end which is inserted into the production apparatus and is brought into direct contact with a high-temperature burning gas stream, is preferably made of a highly thermally conductive material (e.g. copper or aluminum). Preferably, a coating 16 comprising a not highly thermally conductive material is applied to the front end of the outer pipe and to the front end of the atomizing nozzle 7-a. Preferably, a cooling medium is caused to flow through the outer pipe in such a manner that the film coefficient of the cooling medium on the inner surface of the outer pipe is 1,000 kcal/m2hr deg.C or higher.
