PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain excellent rigidity and strength in spite of being lightweight to permit power reduction by using a sandwich panel comprising skin material formed of a plastic sheet, on one face, film material formed on the other face and core material forming the hollow interior in between, as a structural member of a cage. SOLUTION: A cage 1 of an elevator is composed of a floor plate 3, a top plate 4, side plates 5 and a back plate 6, and a car door 7 is closably fitted to the front face. The floor plate 3 and top plate 4, which require rigidity, are formed using sandwich panels provided with skin material 9 made of plastic sheets, on both face of core material 8 placed in between, while the side plates 5 and back plate 6 are formed using sandwich panels provided with plastic sheet skin material 9 and film material 10 on both faces of core material 8 placed in between. As the skin material 9, fiber reinforced plastic sheets are preferable, and a car frame made of FRP or metal is separately fitted if necessary.
