PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device and an image forming device with improved throughput and capable of performing favorable image reading. SOLUTION: In this image reading device provided with a U-turn path 118 conveying originals mounted on document holder 111, throughput is improved by determining a conveyance speed V1 of a conveyance roller A117 at a conveyance speed canceling out a delay occurring when documents are picked up by a pickup roller 113, and accuracy of image reading is improved by determining a conveyance speed V2 of a conveyance roller B119 and a conveyance speed V3 of a paper discharging roller 124 so as to satisfy V2<=V3 for adding an appropriate tension to the documents.
