PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a high molecular weight polyether having a reduced amount of an unsaturated bond in a method of manufacturing a polyether by adding an alkyleneoxide to an active hydrogen-containing compound. SOLUTION: In a method of manufacturing a polyether by addition polymerization of an alkyleneoxide to an active hydrogen-containing compound in the presence of an alkali catalyst, preferably cesium hydroxide, the product is subjected to steam distillation after completion of the addition polymerization of the alkyleneoxide to the active hydrogen-containing compound. The generation of the unsaturated bond is effectively suppressed particularly in the case of addition polymerization of propylene oxide. The alkali catalyst is preferably cesium hydroxide.
