PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new peptide having activity for enhancing pulsation of heart of mollusc, usable as a reagent for elucidating an information treatment mechanism in a nervous system of higher animal and a basic compound in development of agrochemical and medicine. SOLUTION: This peptide is shown by the formula H-Gly-X-Y-Asp-OH (X is an amino acid residue such as L-ser, D-ser or the like; Y is Trp or Gly; the amino acid residue shows L-isomer unless particularly specified) and has activity for enhancing pulsation of heart of mollusc, such as a peptide of the formula H-Gly-Ser-Trp-Asp-OH. The peptide is obtained, for example, by extracting brain of Octopus minor with hot water, adding acetic acid to the extracted solution to make 3% concentration, cooling the solution, centrifuging the solution to give a crude extract, adsorbing the extract on a C18-cartridge, preferably eluting the extract with 60% methanol, collecting a peptide fraction subjecting the fraction to ion exchange chromatography, etc.
