PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a clamp device that can easily maintain clamp force if the driving force of its drive drops, and that can easily determine if it holds a workpiece or not. SOLUTION: This clamp device comprises a guide rail 15, a clamp member 13 turnable on a clamp shaft 14 spaced, as prescribed, from the surface of the guide rail 15 and having a jaw 51 and a wedge rail 53 at circumferentially different positions, a wedge member 16 inserted between the guide rail 15 and the wedge rail 53, and a pneumatic cylinder 12 for driving the wedge member 16. As the wedge member 16 is inserted between the guide rail 15 and the wedge rail 53, the clamp member 13 is turned in the direction for the jaw 51 to clamp a workpiece.
