PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely prevent a rocker-arm shaft from getting out during operation while providing a simple structure allowing the number of machining processes to be small and the cost to be low. SOLUTION: This internal combustion engine comprises a rocker-arm supporting board 22 fixed in the upper surface of a cylinder head 8, rocker-arm shafts 23 supported by the rocker-arm supporting board 22, and rocker arms 21 and 21' being rockably inserted into the rocker-arm shafts 23 In this structure, one of ends of each rocker-arm shaft 23 sandwiching an insertion part of the rocker arm 21 (21') is fixed on a first supporting portion of the rocker- arm supporting board 22 by means of interference fitting, while the other end is loosely fitted to a second supporting portion of the rocker-arm supporting board 22, and a push nut 50 for preventing the rocker-arm shaft 23 from getting out is fitted into an engagement hole of the rocker-arm shaft 23. Additionally, a central part of a platy stopper member 60 is secured with both ends thereof being abutted on the ends of the intake/exhaust rocker-arm shafts so as to prevent the rocker-arm shafts from getting out.
