PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable normal dyeing of a cellulose fiber without causing the inhibition of dyeing by incorporating a dyeing bath containing Mg ion with a specific phosphoric acid compound in an amount corresponding to a specific ratio based on the above Mg ion concentration and dyeing a cellulose fiber with a reactive dye in alkaline state. SOLUTION: A cellulose fiber is dyed with a reactive dye in a dyeing bath containing Mg ion at a concentration of >=10 ppm by using a phosphoric acid compound, e.g. a phosphoric acid salt such as sodium dihydrogenphosphate, disodium hydrogenphosphate, trisodium phosphate, sodium pyrophosphate and sodium tripolyphosphate as a dyeing assistant for the dyeing bath containing Mg ion at a concentration corresponding to >=2 times, preferably 5-30 times the concentration of the Mg ion. The dyeing operation is carried out in an alkaline region of pH 8.5-12, preferably pH 9-11.
