ZIRCONIUM-CONTAINING SILICEOUS FILM, AND LIQUID FOR FORMING THE FILM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a siliceous film excellent in corrosion resistance. SOLUTION: The film is composed of a mixture of silica and zirconia. The mixture consists of 55-99 wt.% SiO2 and 45-1 wt.% ZrO2 (the total of both is 100 wt.%). Because the film can be easily formed by means of sol-gel processing and has excellent corrosion resistance, it can be suitably used, e.g. as a protective film for the weld zone and worked surface of automotive aluminum parts such as a radiator and an automobile body, aluminum parts of a heat exchanger, and the like.
