PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject composition suitable for cleansing the hard surfaces of tableware, trays, bottles, and the like, by including an alkali metal hydroxide, a sequestering agent, and an aluminum compound in specified proportions. SOLUTION: This cleanser composition is obtained by including (A) 5-60 wt.% of an alkali metal hydroxide, (B) 5-50 wt.% of a sequestering agent and (C) 0.01-10 wt.% of an aluminum compound, and pref. also a copolymer (a water-soluble copolymer 500-150,000 in average molecular weight) or a water-soluble salt thereof made from maleic acid or maleic anhydride and another monomer copolymerizable therewith and represented by the formula [R1 to R4 are each H, a 1-5C alkyl, a 1-5C alkoxy or carboxyl; M is H, an alkali metal or an alkanolamine; copolymerization molar ratio (n/m) is (10:1) to (1:10)].
