PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately diagnose a failure of a pipe connected to a fuel chamber. SOLUTION: A failure diagnostic device is provided with a fuel chamber 5 for storing fuel, and pipes 11, 17 and 31 connected to the fuel chamber. The capacity of the fuel chamber is changed according to the fuel amount in the fuel chamber. When a failure of a fuel storage device is diagnosed, pressure in the pipe is changed to preset pressure after the pipe is shut off from the fuel chamber by a shutoff valve 36, and the pipe is closed at the time when pressure in the pipe becomes preset pressure. When pressure in the pipe is changed from pressure at the time when the pipe is closed to a first preset value or more, it is diagnosed that the pipe fails.
