PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an activated clay shaped particle, in which macropores are formed inside, the fine structure of dioctahedral type smectite clay mineral is preserved and the particle diameter is controlled within the range excellent in filtration property. SOLUTION: This method for producing the activated clay shaped particle consists of a process for adjusting the particle size of the dioctahedral type smectite clay mineral to 1-10μm in volume-based median diameter (D50) measured by a laser diffraction method, a process for mixing an acid soluble or acid decomposable inorganic compound into the pulverized treated material, a process for granulating the mixture into a shaped particle having 10-60μm volume-based median diameter D50 measured by the laser diffraction method and a process for treating the shaped particle with acid while the particle shape is kept.
