PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily obtain a smooth end face when cutting an optical fiber by fixing the optical fiber vertically to a smooth surface of a guide part by a holding part, and moving a cutting edge holding part for pressing a vertically swingable cutting edge toward the smooth surface, by a moving mechanism. SOLUTION: A guide part 1 has a smooth surface 7 and an optical fiber insert hole 8 extending vertically to the smooth surface 7. An optical fiber 10 is inserted in the optical fiber insert hole 8 so that a cut position is on a plane. A cutting edge 2 is held by a first elastic body 5 and a cutting edge holding base 3, and its edge tip is vertically swingable to the smooth surface 7. The cutting edge holding base 3 is connected to a moving mechanism 4 through a second elastic body 6 and moves the cutting edge 2 in a y-direction. The cutting edge 2 is moved into a position where the knife edge of the cutting edge 2 crosses the optical fiber 10, to complete cutting of the optical fiber 10. The end face of the cut optical fiber is extremely high in smoothness. |
