PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent image quality from lowering due to contamination of the frame of a carriage. SOLUTION: The image recorder comprises a section 30 for recording an image on a recording material by ejecting ink, a section 31 for cleaning ink jet heads 3a-3d at the image recording section 30, and a section 32 for carrying the recording material in the sub-scanning direction (B-B' direction). The cleaning section 31 comprises a cap 5 for capping the face (directing downward on the drawing) of the ink jet head 3a-3d formed with nozzles, a wiper 12 for cleaning the face of the ink jet head 3a-3d, cleaning rolls 7a, 7b for removing ink adhering to the bottom region (directing downward on the drawing) of the frame of the carriage 2, and a preliminary ejection box 13 for holding preliminarily ejected ink. |
