PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing high-purity bisphenol A containing decreased amount of thermal degradation substance, causal substance for discoloration and coloring substance with decreased number of melting and crystallization steps using a catalyst having high activity and selectivity, a small-sized reactor and decreased amount of catalyst. SOLUTION: Bisphenol A having high purity is produced by reacting acetone with phenol in the presence of an organic polymer siloxane having a hydrocarbon group containing sulfonic acid group and both of a hydrocarbon group containing mercapto group, cooling the reaction mixture containing bisphenol A to form crystal of the adduct of bisphenol A and phenol, separating the adduct crystal from the slurry, removing impurities by fractional melting and crystallization treatment to obtain a purified adduct crystal and finally removing phenol from the purified adduct crystal. |
