PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sufficiently wash the surface of a separation membrane even if filtering treatment is executed over a long period of time by providing a sludge discharge means for discharging the sludge flowed into the inside of an air diffusing device to the outside of the air diffusing device. SOLUTION: The activated sludge treating device has the discharge means for discharging the sludge penetrated into the air diffusing device 4 from a gas discharge hole 12 and gradually blocking off the gas discharge hole 12 to the outside of the air diffusing device 4. In the air diffusing device 4, a washing liq. valve 10 and a discharge valve 11 are disposed. The washing liq. is supplied to the air diffusing device 4 by opening these tow valves 10 and 11 and driving a washing liq. pump 9 and the activated sludge and its dried matter flowed into the inside of the air diffusing device 4 are discharged to the outside of the air diffusing device 4 through the discharge valve 11. The discharge place of the washing liq. is preferably the outside of an aeration tank 1, but may be discharged into the aeration tank 1 in the case is no effect on the water to be treagted. The washing liq. valve 10 and the discharge valve 11 are not limited especially and various kinds of valves may be used.
