PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a (meth)acrylic ester through a method which is easily applicable even in an industrial scale by reacting a (meth)acrylic acid with a halo-γ-butyrolactone and treating an organic solvent solution of the reaction product with active carbon. SOLUTION: A (meth)acrylic ester of formula V is formed by reacting a (meth)acrylic acid of formula I (R1 is H or methyl) with a halo-γ-butyrolactone of formula II (R2 to R5 are each H, a lower alkyl or a lower alkoxy; X is a halogen substituted on theα- orβ-position of the ring; m is 1-n; n is 0 or 1 when X is substituted on theα-position orβ-position, respectively), or reacting a (meth)acrylic halide of formula III with a hydroxy-γ-butyrolactone of formula IV (OH is substituted on theα- orβ-position of aγ-butyrolactone ring; n is 0 or 1 when OH is substituted on theα-position or theβ-position, respectively). An organic solvent solution of the reaction product is treated with active carbon, the active carbon is removed, and the product is collected to obtain the objective compound.
