PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nitrocarburizing steel reduced in hardness in a state of a stock for parts working, excellent in plastic workability and machinability, and having high core hardness after nitrocarburizing treatment and also to provide nitrocarburized parts having high core hardness using the same. SOLUTION: The steel has a composition consisting of, by mass, <=0.30% C, <=0.50% Si, <=0.80% Mn, 0.50-1.50% Cu, 2.00-5.00% Ni, 0.50-2.00% Al, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities. The steel is treated by a process including a solid solution heat treatment step, a cold working step, and a nitrocarburizig step.
