PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a novel cyclodextrin derivative with a single a step under mild conditions easily, selectively and effectively by reacting cyclodexitrin with 3,3-diimidazosulfonylbenzophenone to obtain a cyclodextrin derivative. SOLUTION: Cyclodextrin of formula I and 3,3-diimidazosulfonylbenzophenone of the formula II are reacted to obtain a novel cyclodextrin derivative of formula III. In the formulae, n is 6, 7 or 8. This reaction can be selectively processed in the presence of a molecular sieve. The reaction is preferably conducted in the presence of a solvent and the reaction solvent is preferably an amide- based polar solvent such as N,N-dimethylformamide in view of the solubility of cyclodextrin, the yield of the reaction product and the easiness of removal of the reaction solvent after the reaction. The reaction temperature is 20-60 deg.C.
