PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a probe to be used in a method for accurately and easily detecting a target nucleic acid not only in a solid phase but also in a liquid phase. SOLUTION: This probe is such one as to consist of a single-stranded polynucleotide having an intermediate base sequence composed of at least 10 bases, an energy donor labeled on the base sequence adjacent to an end of the above base sequence, and an energy acceptor labeled on the base sequence adjacent to the other end. A target nucleic acid is detected by detecting the change in a fluorescence emission from the energy donor or energy acceptor due to excitation of the energy donor, based on hybrid formation or no hybrid formation before or after forming a hybrid with the target nucleic acid. |
