PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a clad metal formed by depositing a soft coating material (Al) onto a hard base material (Fe). SOLUTION: In the clad metal which consists of a base material and a coating material covering a part or the whole of the base material and composed of a metal softer than the base material, the boundary zone between the base material and the coating material is formed by means of melting using high density energy as a heat source. As the high density energy heat source, heat sources, such as an electron beam, metal inert gas arc, tungsten inert gas arc, and plasma transferred arc can be used besides a laser beam; any heat source can be utilized so far as heat can be provided in a high density state.
