New water-soluble anionic anthraquinone monoazo dyes (IA) are 1-amino-4-N-(3- or 4-azophenyl)-amino-anthraquinone-2-sulfonic acids and salts with at least 2 sulfo groups, in which the coupling component is selected from a methylene-active non-cyclic or carbocyclic, non-aromatic coupler, a heterocyclic coupler or 6- or 7-amino-1-naphthol-3-sulfonic acid or salt. New water-soluble anionic anthraquinone monoazo dyes (IA) are 1-amino-4-N-(3- or 4-azophenyl)-amino-anthraquinone-2-sulfoni acids and salts of formula (I) with at least 2 sulfo groups and a specified coupling component; B = the residue of a specified coupling component The full definitions are given in the DEFINITIONS. Independent claims are also included for: (a) the use of a wider range of water-soluble dyes (I) of formula (I); (b) the preparation of dyes (I), including (IA); (c) colored plastics, comprising a water-soluble polymer colored with dye(s) (I) or (IA) for dyeing or coloring substrates.
