PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus which cleaves a raw material such as wood and bamboo in the fiber direction by rotary cutter rows into disposable chopstick-shaped strands and is free from the clogging of the clearance between cutter rows with wood scraps and the winding of the wood scraps onto the cutter rows. SOLUTION: In an cleaving apparatus, a raw material 5 such as wood and bamboo is cleaved in the fiber direction by rotary cutter 1 rows into disposable chopstick-shaped strands. Rotary cutters are engaged with at least one of rotary shafts 1C facing each other, and a moving body 4 moving in the moving direction of the raw material 5 is set between the rotary edges 1a of the cutters 1.
