PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a dispersion strengthening type aluminum base composite material contg. Al4C3 particles and to provide a method for producing it by casting. SOLUTION: This aluminum matrix composite material is composed by dispersing composite particles obtd. by allowing Al4C3 particles to surround carbon particles into the matrix of aluminum or an aluminum alloy, In the method for producing the composite material, carbon particles are added to the molten metal of aluminum or an aluminum alloy, ultrasonic vibration is applied to the molten metal, and also, eddy current stirring is executed to mix the carbon particles and the molten metal, and carbon in the carbon particles and aluminum in the molten metal are brought into in-situ reaction in the molten metal to form Al4C3.
