PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an acaricide having remarkable acaricidal effects on acarids and eggs thereof and high safety for human bodies by including an alcohol having a specific hydrophile-lipophile balance as an active ingredient. SOLUTION: This acaricide is obtained by including an alcohol having 8.5-11 value of hydrophile-lipophile balance (value of HLB) as an active ingredient. The value of HLB denotes the ratio of hydrophilic groups to hydrophobic groups and is calculated by an Atlas method a Kawakami method, a Davis method, etc., and mainly used as an index to solubilizing power of a nonionic surfactant. In the alcohols, the value is preferably calculated by the Davis method. A monohydric alcohol and a polyhydric alcohol such as propylene glycol, dipropylene glycol or 2,3-butanediol are cited as the alcohol having 8.5-11 value of HLB. Among them, the polyhydric alcohol is preferred and the propylene glycol is more preferred.
