PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure the holding of a single crystal when the single crystal is pulled up while being mechanically held by a knob formed at the upper part of the single crystal. SOLUTION: A holding device 6 for pulling up a single crystal while holding its knob part 12 is constituted of a holding device main body 8 and a holding unit 9. The holding unit 9 is constituted of a slide plate 9a freely movable in the horizontal direction in the holding device main body 8 and plural pawl members 9b, 9b attached on the slide plate 9a. As the holding unit 9 is aligned to the knob part 12 in accompany with the action of the plural pawl members 9b, 9b for holding the knob part 12, the holding of the crystal by the holding device 6 is secured.
