The method for estimating parameters in a telecommunication system involves storing input and output signals in a buffer unit. The signals are those which normally occur in a telecommunication network during operation. The impulse response is calculated by inverse transformation of an estimated transmission function: H(f) = Syx(f)/Sxx(f) where: Syx(f) is the in/out effect cross spectrum and Sxx(f) is the in effect spectrum.
