PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain high sensitivity and high output and to easily control a bias point by connecting a pair of electrodes which supply a sense current to the both ends of a spin valve element and fixing magnetization in a magnetization fixing layer of the element with an antiferromagnetic film layer. SOLUTION: The spin valve element 1 is produced by laminating a pin layer, intermediate layer and magnetization free layer, and electrodes 2 are disposed on the both ends of this element. A magnetization direction P of the pin layer and a direction C of the sense current in the spin valve element 1 are arranged almost parallel to the counter face to a recording medium 200, and the magnetic flux flowing from the recording medium 200 enters almost parallel to the sense current C. Since the magnetization direction P of the pin layer is almost parallel to the direction C of the sense current, such a problem that the magnetic field by the sense current changes the bias on an operation point can be avoided. A sufficiently large exchange coupling magnetic field is maintained at the annealing temp. of a magnetic yoke as the characteristics of an antiferromagnetic film to fix magnetization of the spin valve element 1.
