PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid as much as possible occurrence of a case where image communication equipment is disabled from receiving transmitted image data, while receiving the data due to the paper shortage which occurs, when or while the equipment receives the data. SOLUTION: When this image communication equipment receives image data, the equipment acquires the number of pages of an original transmitted from transmission-side equipment by receiving the number from the transmission- side equipment (S303) and, in addition, detects the remaining number of set sheets (S304). When the number of pages of the transmitted original is larger than the remaining number of set sheets, the equipment converts the image data into a reduced layout, so that the image data on a plurality of pages are printed on one sheet (S305 and S306). Then the equipment prints the transformed image data on the sheets (S308). Upon detecting the paper shortage, the equipment informs the transmission-side equipment of that the equipment is disabled from receiving the transmitted image data (S307 and S310).
