PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image data compressing method for an image processing device which measures such a large object as a long-size matter at high precision even with a frame memory of a small capacity. SOLUTION: A line sensor 31 which picks is the image of an object to be measured as a primary image picking-up device, and a frame memory where the image data comprising at least address and brightness data for each pixel are accumulated as measurement data for judging a shape feature of the object to be measured, are provided. Here, the image data for one line acquired from the line sensor 31 are compared to that for a latest one line accumulated in the frame memory, and the image data for one line are accumulated in the frame memory only when there is a change in brightness data.
