METHOD FOR ESTIMATING SUPERIOR MOTION BETWEEN TWO SHEETS OF FRAMES

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize general-purpose global motion inferring processing by combining a phase correlation peak detecting algorithm and a multiple resolution robust regression algorithm. SOLUTION: Translating movement through plural different windows in a frame is estimated by using a correlation detecting algorithm (S1). The translating movement is grouped by each similar movement and P pieces of translation vectors are defined from estimated N pieces of translating movement vectors (P<=N) (S2). Through the use of kinds of usable primary values, multiple resolution robust regression algorithm is executed to estimate global movement across frames. Motion is obtained from the sum of each remaining translating motion vector and former final global motion estimated at a former time point (S3). The best estimated global motion is selected and a final superior motion vector is stored as a former superior motion vector so as to be used at S2 and S3 with respect to the next source frame to be processed (S4, 5).
