PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a semiconductor memory device which is capable of converting the level of main word drive signals without increase in chip size. SOLUTION: There are two different regions, where one is a core layout part of a semiconductor chip with elements being densely laid out and the other is a peripheral circuit layout part where elements are laid out not so densely, and a level conversion circuit 31 is arranged in the region of a peripheral circuit layout part, by which a level conversion circuit that is large in circuit area is not provided in the core layout part that has no margin for sparing space for a circuit, and a level conversion circuit can be provided in the peripheral circuit layout part without accompanied increase in circuit area, and a level conversion can be carried out without inviting increasing a chip in area as a whole.
