PURPOSE:To obtain a film which is excellent in durability, slipperiness, and wearing resistance and can retain these properties for long by forming, on at least one side of a substrate required to be lubricated, a chemisorption film of long-chain molecules bonded through siloxane or other chemical linkages and further forming a chemisorption film thereon. CONSTITUTION:A substrate 1 is contacted with a chemisorbable silane compound, e.g. one having a dimethylsilyl group, to react active hydrogen groups present on the surface of the substrate 1 with the silane compound. Thus this compound forms a chemisorption film 2 bonded through covalent bonds (SiO-) formed by the elimination of hydrogen chloride. The dimethylsilyl groups are then converted into active hydrogen groups, e.g. hydroxyl or imino, by oxidation, treatment with an alkali, actinic ray irradiation, etc. The resulting surface is contacted again with the compound to form films 3 and 4 thereon. A long- chain hydrocarbon may be physisorbed further thereon. |
