摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medium having excellent resistance against thermal fluctuation and having low noise by forming a Co alloy magnetic film directly on a substrate or with a specified base film interposed, and forming an orientation controlling film containing elements selected from each two groups in a specified range. SOLUTION: An orientation controlling film containing an element selected from Cr, Ge and Si by 50 to 80 at.% and an element selected from Al, Mo, Re and W by 20 to 45 at.% is formed on a substrate. Then a magnetic film consisting of a Co alloy is formed on the orientation controlling film. Preferably, the orientation controlling film substantially has a C11b crystal structure so as to orient the axis of easy magnetization of the magnetic film in the film plane. In order to orient a Cr base film to be formed thereon in the (211) direction by using the C11b orientation controlling film, the orientation controlling film is oriented in the (116) direction.
