PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling the operation of a cooling chamber preventing wasteful current supply of a drain pan heater after defrosting is finished. SOLUTION: The cooling chamber 1 has compressors 12a, 12b, water-cooled condenses 14a, 14b, coolers 10a, 10b for cooling air in the chamber, and blowers 11a, 11b, 11c for the coolers for conveying cold air cooled by the coolers to a storage chamber 2 when operated to be cooled. When operated, cold air is generated by the coolers, and when defrosted, melted drain water from the cooler is drained through a drain pan 29. A drain pan heater 31 is provided at the pan 29. The heater is turned on when the defrosting is started, and turned off with a delay of a predetermined time after the defrosting is finished, and the delay time is changed in response to a set temperature of the storage chamber.
