PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a color gamut compressing method and a color gamut compressing device, which compress an inputted color into a color with high saturation in high and low lightness areas without damaging the gradation of the color. SOLUTION: This color gamut compressing device 1 converts inputted color into color in a color gamut according to an output system information device 22. In this case, the device is provided with a converging point calculating part 103, which calculates coordinates on the basis of a point corresponding to a color which has the same hue as that of the inputted color does, has the same lightness as any color among four values being the maximum saturation, average value of the color gamut, value of center of gravity of the color gamut and median of the color gamut of the device 22 in the hue, exists in the color gamut by the device 22 and is also a chromatic color as a converging point, a 1st compression point calculating part 104, which calculates the coordinates of any point existing on an almost straight line connecting the converging point and a point corresponding to the inputted color and also in the color gamut by the device 22 as a compression point and a compressing part 106 which converts the inputted color into a color corresponding to the compression point calculated by the part 104. |
