摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform returning operation directly from a standby mode by positioning an optical head at either of scanning ends of an information recording medium when a mode is shifted from an other mode to a standby mode. SOLUTION: At the time of shifting to a standby mode, it is discriminated by a MPU 205 whether an optical head 204 is positioned at a detectable scanning end of a position sensor 206 or not. When it is positioned at a scanning end, a mode is shifted to a standby mode. When it is not positioned at a scanning end, a pulse motor 213 is rotated in the reverse direction, after the optical head 204 is moved to a scanning end of the position sensor 206 side, the mode is shifted to a standby mode. After that, the position of the optical head 204 is discriminated again by a scanning part instruction or insertion of an optical card, when the optical head 204 is positioned at a scanning end of the position sensor 206, the mode is made recording/reproducing mode, when it is not, the pulse motor is rotated in the reverse direction and after the optical head is moved to a scanning end, the mode is made the recording/ reproducing mode. Thus, movement distance of the optical head 204 at the time of returning operation is shortened by moving previously the optical head 204 to a detectable scanning end of the position sensor 206.
