MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM AND ITS PRODUCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To carry out flattening with high precision even when a nonmagnetic substrate comprising a polyamide film is used. SOLUTION: At least, a metallic magnetic film 4 is formed on one principal face of a nonmagnetic substrate 1 to obtain the objective magnetic recording medium. The nonmagnetic substrate 1 comprises an aromatic polyamide film having 1.5-2.5% heat shrinkage percentage at 200 deg.C in the width direction. The metallic magnetic film 4 is prepared by etching an oxidized surface layer formed on the surface of the metallic magnetic film 4. A metallic thin film 5 for reinforcement is formed on the other principal face of the nonmagnetic substrate 1.
